  6. Again, begin counting seconds as you forcefully exhale out all your air and breathe normally for 5 seconds or so (no need to hold your breath). The idea is to allow all the moisture in your mouth to evaporate, which will then leave you with a completely dry mouth. If that’s not possible due to pain or some other reason, try at least.
  7. Mark the number of seconds again on the paper and write it next to the first one from step 4.
  8. As accurately as possible, subtract the number from step 7 from the number in step 4.
  9. Success! If you manage to get a negative result without rounding down, then your body is properly hydrated and you don’t need to worry about dehydration headaches. Otherwise, keep reading and try again later.
  10. If you’re positive that you had got a negative number, write down “dehydrated” next to it. If you’re not positive, then wait for about 8 hours or overnight and follow the same procedure again.
  11. If the number is still negative, write down “very dehydrated”. Again, if you’re not sure, then wait at least 12 hours before doing step 2 all over again.
  12. If the number is still negative, you either have a severe medical condition or something with your kidneys is acting up – most likely both! You need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

It’s important to note that headaches from dehydration are not at all similar to headaches from other causes, most notably caffeine withdrawal and hangover.
