But when did the coffee maker originate?
Melitta Bentz was the person who came up with it in 1908.
Melitta Bentz created the first drip, coffee maker. She utilized a blotting paper filter. Though coffee has been made for thousands of years, it wasn’t until 575 AD that it became popular in Europe.
The coffee percolator was developed by Turks in 1818. It is thought that the history of coffee brewing has been lost, therefore the coffee machine was invented in the 1800s.

The “Ibrik method”
In the days before modern coffee pots, people actually brewed coffee in a pot that was specifically designed for it. The “ibrik method” is the name for this process.
Coffee brewing is a specialty of Turkey. However, this procedure took a long time to complete. When coffee arrived in Europe, several ways were discovered to make it. This method of making coffee is also used in India.
The roots of this technique go all the way back to the year 850. This is when coffee seeds were first planted in Yemen.
Brewed with sugar and spices, it was a very popular beverage at the time. It has been said that about a thousand years later people started drinking coffee without adding any spices or sugar.
The siphon Pot and the Socks
People used to put coffee beans in a sock and then pass hot water through it. The sock was used as a filter. However, with the invention of new technology, several fast methods for making coffee were also developed.
Later in the 19th century, siphon pots became available, but many people still use them across the world today. We have all heard of “French Press” coffee. This is the process of using a press pot, which is also known as “immersion.”
The percolator method was invented in the early 1800s. And now we’re stuck with these machines!
They actually can make very good coffee, but you have to wait for it – it takes much longer than a drip coffee maker.
The evolution of Espresso machines
Espresso machines began in the year 1884, when Angelo Moriondo, an Italian, invented the espresso machine. Coffee was compressed into a cake and water pressure through it in his method.
Although his device was a great success in the coffee business; it couldn’t produce coffee on a small scale. It was only used to make coffee by the rich, but the espresso was introduced to average people in the early 1900s.
By 1905, Luigi Bezzera and Desiderio Pavoni had modified the machine, which Angelo renamed it. Their device was capable of producing 10,000 cups of coffee in an hour.
This new invention was only the beginning of the coffee industry. Coffee machines have evolved significantly since their first days of creation. And now, drip coffee makers are most common among people across the world. They make great tasting coffee and they’re fast!
Paper coffee filter
The first coffee maker constructed out of paper was created by Melitta Bent in 1908. Yes, a piece of paper. She invented the popular paper coffee filter. She used her son’s school notebook to filter the coffee through.
Because many coffee grinds went through the sock, this technique was far superior than using socks as a filter. Nowadays, paper coffee filters are used in many homes and restaurants.
And, as we said before, drip coffee makers have been the most popular machine for making coffee at home since the 1960s. The first one was invented by a man called Melitta Bentz .
She began using a sock as a filter because that’s what rich people were doing to make quality coffee at home.
La Pavoni machines
The La Pavoni espresso makers became increasingly popular in the 1920s. Daisy created a new espresso machine in 1938. The forcing of water through the coffee was carried out using a piston-based pump.
This piston-based pump aided in the formation of a froth or crema on top of the brew. Rich and perfect coffee are considered to have one ingredient in common – crema.
If the coffee beans are fresh, then there’ll be good crema on top of the coffee once it is prepared. And that’s thanks to this machine! La Pavoni was an Italian invention and they really excel at making quality espresso machines.
That’s why these machines are popular throughout Europe and America up to this day.
Modern-day Coffee machine
In the early 1960s, Ernesto Valente created the first modern Coffee maker. These devices used a pump rather than a piston to force water through them. Water may now be heated on demand instead of having to store it in a large reservoir.
In the 1980s and 1990s, new equipment was developed that included semi-automatic to fully automated machinery.
Most of these devices have a tank, which holds the water. The pressure is then created by connecting the machine to a power outlet. This heated water is then passed through coffee beans to produce espresso.
It’s the same technique that Luigi Bezzera and Desiderio Pavoni invented in 1905.
